Stooks o Corn

What a wonderful day of sunshine, warm too and what a lovely still calm evening and night :) And looking like it may last a few days :)

It seemed to be really quiet at the museum today with the fine day, not surprising as most locals and visitors really needed to be out enjoying the fine day :) A fine walk across Lerwick on my lunch break and met mam for a bite to eat.
After work and tea, it was straight out to enjoy the evening sunshine and a great evening walk with more walks to come :)

Corn isn't grow much over Shetland now and a fairly rare sight in some parishes. Shetland corn is shorter and sturdier than mainland Scotland, it has to live up to the high winds and rain. These shaeves of corn have been gathered together into stooks (or dushes as my Granny Lorna from Cunningsburgh says) before being taken home to the croft and stacked into skroos. The peerie Shetland field mice will be dining well tonight :) Taken at Greenmow, Cunningsburgh.
