Canalside walk
This is the Trent and Mersey Canal only a few miles away from my house near Church Lawton. We had decided on a short walk just to stretch our legs, so didn't want to drive too far.
We started the walk from the church in Church Lawton and headed towards the Macclesfield Canal. Then to Scholar Green, where there is a pub called The Bleeding Wolf. The walk straddled both the A34 and the A50 in the area and at various points we could see a local folly - Mow Cop Castle in the distance.
Plenty of wild life was in evidence including many craneflies and speckled wood butterflies. We watched a gathering of swallows and housemartins on some powerlines above the fields. They seemed to be exercising their wings ready for their next big adventure.
This view is towards the end of the walk as we approached the last lock on the canal before we walked back to the church. Mow Cop Castle can be seen on the left alobg the skyline.
