Gylen Castle
The forecast was good today so we set off with children and childrens friend to visit Kerrera and walk to Gylen castle. The ferry crossing only takes 5 minutes but the walk is just short of seven miles.
The weather did not quite live up to the forecast but it didn't rain and wasn't cold. We did stop for some tea and cake in the farm tea shop. We also had a lovely meal when we returned to Oban at Piazza.
This shot was taken as we approached Gylen castle. I have given it a little crop and a little light painting to lift it from the flat light.
Gylen castle was built in 1552 and belongs to the MacDougalls of Dunollie. It has been partially restored after spending many years behind scaffolding. It lies on the southerly tip of the island of Kerrera. If you are ever in the Oban area looking for a good scenic walk I recommend this one.
