Shipwreck Coast
One of my favorite walks at Pictured Rocks is Shipwreck Coast. Shipwreck Coast is a stretch a beach on Lake Superior infamous for its abundance of shipwrecks over the course of history. This stretch of water has hidden reefs and sandbars that have sunk many a great ship just yards offshore. Although the water line is over a foot higher than recent years, you can still see and explore three old wooden ship decks right on the beach. The ships sunk over a hundred years ago, but the cold waters of Lake Superior have preserved the skeletons for visitors.
