They, evidently, do not listen very carefully. I have yet, at any time this year, heard the word "celebrate" used in conjunction with WWI except by those hard of thinking folks who seem unable to distinguish between "Celebrate" and "Commemorate" which is the nearest I've come to hearing "celebrate".
