Campaigns always throw up surprises. This morning I had expected a day of campaign activity in Dunoon culminating in canvassing with local activists this evening.

Instead a phone call just before 10.00am set me off on a different trajectory - work on a speech for an event at Glasgow University tonight , some local issues to resolve from the office and then a drive to the city to formally welcome a major European Conference of Political Scientists who have certainly found themselves in the right place at the right time.

This was taken in the University's Bute Hall this evening . Prof. Anton Muscatelli, the University Principal, told me as we were sitting on the platform that the evening light shows off the building at its best and certainly it was , as ever, impressive .
