The sweet scent of sugar.
Down in the valley, where the sugar cane grows in the fields either side of the river, we often see sugar cane fires (completely controlled by our local farmers) before the harvesting trucks come through.
The fires remove a lot of the straggling greenery and also creepy-crawlies from the cane, which is then carted to the local sugar mill, for processing. When the mill is in action, the scent is very sweet indeed.
I spotted a cane fire just before dusk tonight, looking rather brilliant against the natural colours of the hills and fields. If you look carefully (perhaps on large) you may also see the Tweed River.
Just for fun, I have added a follow up photo to my Mono Monday spot for this week. The theme was "Relaxing", and our star relaxer, Mr. Sammy Cat, was in flying form yesterday. :)
