Frying pan lake, Waimangu Volcanic Valley

We went to Waimangu Volcanic Valley today which is an amazing place. Took loads of pics but none of them do it justice. The place is a geothermal system created by the eruption of Mount Trarawera on 10th June 1886 and is the youngest geothermal system in the world and the only one wholly created as a direct result of a volcanic eruption.

This picture is of frying pan lake, the largest geothermal hot pool in the world. There were loads of these, little geezers, amazing colours and the whole thing felt like being in jurassic park ... amazing day. And we mostly had the place to ourselves as we walked for hours hardly seeing anyone.
