British Grasshoppers continued .......

........ Common groundhopper
last day of the summer holiday today, it's back to work tomorrow!
I am feeling very ambivalent, one half destraught that my liberty is about to disappear, and the other desperate for the routine work brings.
It started well with a bumper catch in my new moth trap with 177 moths, despite the wet conditions. I was really pleased with the catch, and even more delighted the inverted pyrex bowl over the bulb works a treat. The only downside was 160 of them were Large Yellow underwings!!!
Later in the afternoon Charlii, Rosie and I visited Staplefield churchyard, which was lovely, it had some lovely old gravestones, and a good amount of wildlife, including Common lizards, Butterflies and about 5 species of grasshopper/ cricket.
Charlii noticed this Common groundhopper Tetrix undulata crawling over one of the liken coloured gravestones, very well camouflaged.
The common groundhopper at 8-11mm is a small relative of grasshoppers, it can be found all year round, and is widespread throughout the UK.
It can be found in damp and dry locations where there is bare ground, but is so well camouflaged it is probably often overlooked.
I was pleased to find this one today (even if it is an awful shot) , another nice grasshopper to add to my list
