Orchardton Pond
Monday afternoon, and a stroll around Broadwood Loch which, while it is many things, is not one of the most photogenic locations in the area. It is bounded on two sides by modern housing, on one side by a business park and Broadwood Stadium and on the other side dominated by electricity pylons. Nevertheless there is a view (sort of) of the Campsie Fells to the north and a fair amount of bird life on the loch itself.
However, if one extends a walk around the loch by taking the woodland path loop at its western end, then it does feel as if one has had a real walk in the country. A meandering path leads through a variety of trees and there is a sense of solitude there that one doesn't get on the main path around the loch. Near the end of that loop (assuming one is going anti-clockwise, if you know what I mean) there is Orchardton Pond.
On my Monday afternoon stroll, the sun was shining straight across the pond to where I was standing, so a bit of playing about with different exposure settings was required. Since none of my photographs of Broadwood Loch were particularly inspiring, I thought I'd post this one of the pond instead.
