Meet Spot!

Spot - named by my husband - is a cross orbweaver spider. See the cross in her markings? She lives just outside our deck door windows.

With the pretty little cross on her tunic, I must say I think of her more as a Joan of Arc type, bravely protecting our home from insect invaders.

According to Wikipedia, "Orb spiders are said to eat their webs each night along with many of the small insects stuck to it. They have been observed doing this within a few minutes. A new web is then spun in the morning."
