Perplexed...

This is a sign on the wall of the York Hotel, Todmorden.
I can understand the 'Free Wi-Fi" and the "Great Beer" but the "Alcohol! Because no great story started with eating a salad..." perplexes me.
I have Googled it and got lots of images etc - and whilst I can agree with the sentiment :-) what's the origin of it?
Can any blipper help?
