Silence at Meinbrexen Waters
This afternoon we drove up to the great Meinbrexen Waters. The weather kept the middle between drizzly and sunny. But we left our rain jackets behind when we started to walk down the track towards the Weser river and the lakes beside. We love to come here because of the off the road and almost deserted quality of this natural reserve. It is crowded with birds, geese, ducks, swans, herons. And a real colony of Cormorants was staying at the waterfront. Some were floating a bit. But most of them were standing on stones and small beaches. From here they fish in all directions over the river. And maybe in the lakes too. Also people come to fish here. Here my Cormorant Friends were gathering, like they use to do on the Zandmotor Peninsula at the seaside. But they appeared to be shyer than my seaside friends. Every time I came near enough to make a photo they flew up and changed to distant positions. So what I can share is this ambiguous late summer mood at Meinbrexen. Willemien has seen the Cormorants from a better angle! She and Mischa were focussing on damselflies, lylies, and other creatures of the fields and waterfront, I enjoyed the strolling through the grasses and reeds, listening to the geese and ducks. Deeply peaceful in my silent heart.
