Bison Road Block!
A glorious day after a cool morning of perfect blue skies.
We started the day with a leisurely tour of Jackson (100 years old this year) finding somewhere in the sun to drink our coffee. By lunchtime we were looking for shade.
Heading out into the Grand Teton National Park, only about 5 miles away, we were not disappointed with the magnificent Teton mountains and the amazing big skies above the valley of Jackson Hole.
We decided to do loop of the Southern part of the park as we will pass through again tomorrow heading north. There are lots of signs at the side of the road exhorting you to take care of the wildlife crossing and as we had stopped at the National Elk reserve to read that they are mainly there between November and May we weren't too excited to see a sign saying Buffalo crossing in the next 5 miles. But here they were holding up the traffic. A whole herd of shaggy Bison with their young. I was so thrilled as at one point they were crossing right in front of us. This just had to be my blip for the day despite the stunning scenery.
We carried on to Jackson Lake and then turned back past Jenny Lake where we had some lunch (going to have to find something other than ham or turkey and cheese sandwiches!) and finally came to Teton village just a few miles out of Jackson.
This is called a Grand Adventure Park, a purpose built ski resort officially the 'Jackson Hole Mountain Resort' and quite modern; we took the Airiel Tram up to the top of Rendezvous Mountain. We left the valley bottom at 75 degrees F and ascended to over 10,000 ft where it was 20 degrees cooler but it gave a great view of the valley which is Jackson Hole, not the town. The Snake River passes right down this valley which is very broad with mountains at either side.
I have put some of these places on my Flickr page if you are interested this is the link if you want to paste it in:

We are going north to Yellowstone NP tomorrow where I am told there is no internet,
so will try to backblip later.
