Journey Through Time

Thailand Feast

Bill, David and I went to Pok Pok in SE Portland today for our Thailand feast. One would probably have to go to Thailand to be more authentic. The owner/chef has won awards - check it out if you want.

The beverage is Thai Iced Tea, made with some kind of milky substance and lovely spices. Yum. We shared our food, of course, trying Bill's Vietnamese style chicken wings (which Bill loved, by the way), David's Chiang Mai style sausage. and my northern Thailand pork dish, with wonderful deep flavor but little "heat". We had sticky rice for David and Bill and I had Jasmine rice. We also had a shrimp dish with glass noodles that had a lovely flavor.

We ate in one of the indoor spaces which was the bar, and that turned out to be a good thing, because we didn't realize that the street that this place is on, Division Street, is getting a full makeover and it was noisy outside with paving trucks doing their thing. The street will be really nice when all is said and done, but I wouldn't advise anybody to go there until it is finished. You are welcome to take a peek at a few photos I took...of Pok Pok, the street, a few neighborhood scenes, including the darkest tomato I have ever seen (it's black! almost), a black kitty, the interesting old house where the black tomato and kitty reside, half a bicycle on a pole, and Fairley's Pharmacy, which was the pharmacy my husband's family used the whole time they lived in NE Portland. I've been in that unique place many times.

A warm day, but a lot cooler than previous days.

Thank you for stopping by. We had a fun time and no trips to the ER were necessary. We are very fortunate to live here in the Pacific NW, because our food choices, fresh or in restaurants, are quite varied and I am constantly amazed at the cultural diversity of our area. I am grateful that we have so many fun and interesting places to choose from, when we do get an opportunity to eat out. It isn't often that we can do this, because we aren't in Thailand, where you can eat pretty good for not a lot of money. We can eat pretty good here, but, yikes....retired folks, fixed budget..you know the drill. So...these outings like this are few and far between. A hearty thank you to my men folk for the lovely lunch/dinner out.

Thanks for stopping by for a whiff of Thai cuisine.
