Golden rose

After a good start my roses haven't done very well this year. Most of the foliage including new buds has been massacred by stripey caterpillars. Against all the odds this rose, Golden Wedding, has produced this heavy yellow bloom, just four days away from our anniversary. It is heavy with rain, but still a thing of beauty I think.

I have spent the afternoon teaching Mahjong. I have been playing the game since I was eight and all the complicated rules are second nature to me. It still surprises me what a very long time it takes for some people to get the hang of it. It is a great game, so all their effort will be worth it in the end.
