Nothing is worth more

cheerfulness

a busy day today, off on the bike to the wilds of West Lothian again, then back with hopefully enough time to shower, change and get down town for a very special sixth birthday party! My friend Sheila brought me these daffodils on Sunday evening, all tight and closed up ...now they are gloriously open and cheerful and sit very happily below the poster for what was one of the best exhibitions I have seen in my many years in Edinburgh, A Shepherd's Life, paintings of the solitary Borders shepherdess, Jenny Armstrong, who lived at Kittleyknowe. The painting in the poster shows Jenny walking through a snowy winter landscape towards her sheep...strong, determined and on her own....the colours in the painting are by necessity muted and reflective....now the yellow daffodils sitting below take me forward in my mind to the spring.
