Thack Moor
Part of the Northern Pennines above the village of Renwick in Cumbria lies Thack Moor which has the distinction of recently becoming a mountain (2000 ft) Recent extensive surveys show that it is up there with the 2000's. It must have grown! If you decide to walk on Thack Moor you can almost guarantee being alone except for the sounds of Curlews, Buzzards, sheep and the wind. There are quite a few old lead mines sprinkling the hillside - pardon, I mean mountainside, and at this time of year it is purple with sweet smelling heather and on a clear day has the most stunning views of the Lake District Mountains. Paths are difficult to find.
