Mono Monday - Recyling

Recycling Bicycle.

This is our son’s bike. Or what remains of it. It was one of the many items that we “inherited” when he went off after he had finished uni, to live in Taiwan for a year. He’s now been there for 10 and a half years and is married with 2 children.

Nikonabike used to ride this bike after it was left with us, as at the time it was better than the one which he had. Nikonabike bought himself a new one last year, and now this poor old thing that was once a highly cherished possession is destined to go to the “Recycling Centre” run by our local council.

Our son sold all his worldly goods at the time in order to buy his much wanted bike – his Lego, other toys, his old bike – everything. Unfortunately the first one that he bought he chained it up to the railings at the local railway station, and it was promptly stolen. Not being worldy-wise, he had put it round the back, thinking that no-one could see it there. What he didn't think about was that no-one could see the thief taking it either! Thankfully, we had made him take out insurance, so it was fully covered, but it was a valuable lesson in life. I’m afraid that there’s now no saddle, and the saddle-stem has seized up, but I’m sure that someone may be able to salvage some goods bits from it.

The recycling centre is at our local tip, and is the first place you come to when you arrive at the tip to dump rubbish. By having to drive past the recycling centre first, it really does persuade you that if there’s anything that you might be throwing out that someone else might wish to buy – leave it at the recycling centre. All proceeds from the sale of materials from this shop go directly to the local hospice.

I do hope someone wants to buy some parts of this once much-loved recycled bicycle.

This is my contrition to Mono Monday Challenge - Recycling, which is being hosted by wetcoastbob for the month of August. Thanks wetcoastbob!
