Nature's Jewelry

Red with the first hint of fall,
A Japanese maple. Against her waist,
An ornament of grape leaves.

I've watched all summer as this grapevine has spread itself around the Japanese maple in my backyard. Tempted at times to shear it off, never able to bring myself to do it. I tend to anchor my life with little things like this. The passing of a season measured in the subtle growth of a vine.
