EPS International Exhibition of Photography

I was doing my stint today on the doorway of Edinburgh Photographic Society International Exhibition. This is the 152nd international exhibition we have run and it is one of the longest running print exhibitions in the UK. Print exhibitions are fast disappearing as the cost (particularly postal costs) and administration of running them escalates. Many exhibitions nowadays are purely digital files as they are so much easier to organise. The Edinburgh Exhibition is one of the most difficult to gain acceptance in the UK as our lecture hall space limits us to just over 200 prints. Our current entry is down to 2100 but it used to run between 3000 to 4000. We now have a catalogue, which displays all of the accepted entries so it is well worth trying for an acceptance. We are lucky in Edinburgh that we are able to run our exhibition concurrent with the Edinburgh Festival and Fringe and thereby gain a lot of extra visitors. The exhibition is well worth seeing and maybe a bit more varied than previously as environmental portraiture seems less dominant though montage images both surreal and otherwise are getting more popular. Natural History is well represented this year as well. It’s on at the society headquarters at 68 Great King Street, Edinburgh 10.00am – 5.00pm everyday until the 31st of August for those of you who live locally..
