The Dinkum, Polegate

Another local connection with the first world war is the Dinkum pub in Polegate.
During ww1 there was a colonial service camp at Willingdon ,about a mile from Polegate, were soldiers convalesced from the effects of gas.
As part of their treatment they had to march from their camp to Polegate and back.
The Australians discovering the pub, then known as the Polegate inn,to be halfway ,called in before returning announcing the pub to be FAIR DINKUM.
The pub was renamed The Dinkum, in 1980 .
