Beyond the Pleasance Dome
I was up and about early today as I finally decided to go and see "Shakespeare for Breakfast", it's a morning fringe show (10am), they provide breakfast in the form of a cup of tea or coffee and a croissant. It has evidently been running at the Fringe for 23 years! They apparently come up with a different Shakespearean play each year, this year it was about a woman disguised as a boy is washed up on an island (Shakespeare Land) and meets numerous characters from different Shakespearean plays. It was very funny and well worth going into town early.
My second Fringe show of the day was "The Hive" a play about a futuristic world where everybody lives in separate "cells" underground (after a war) and only communicate via view screens and are referred to by citizen numbers, until one guy starts to question the system. It was very good with some really good visual effect and acting.
I had planned to see "Austentatious" after that and was in the queue to go in when I realise my ticket was dated for tomorrow! Disaster! I had booked the wrong date! I had a few hours to kill before my next show and so ended up grabbing a couple beers and a couple rum and cokes at pop-up beer gardens.
My third show of the day was "Pants Down Circus : Rock" which was great, it was a combination of comedy, juggling, balancing, acrobatics and other similar clever and astounding acts. The whole show was done to a hard rock soundtrack with music from the likes of AC/DC, Queen, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, etc. It was a fantastic show, with some very impressive acts and some of my favourite music.
After the show I decided to stop into Usher's bar for a quick pint before going home, but I ran into a couple people and then they had a free fringe stand-up comedy show which, to be honest, was pretty poor. After the comedy show I was finishing up my drink when Ann & Baxter showed up so I stayed somewhat longer than intended!
Today's Blip was taken inside the "Pleasance Dome" which has a number of venues during the Fringe.
