Lapad at Night

So I wanted to see if there was anything on the internet about Lapad...the answer is, not much. So I'll give a little information myself on it I guess!

1. It is about a ten to fifteen minute bus ride away from Dubrovnik itself - great because it means you get your own space. However, buses get really crowded in the morning, and also from around 6pm, so I would go in the evening. It means that the temperature is lower, and the last bus is at 2.30am...so I don't think you need to worry about getting back!
2. The beaches are shingle, and crowded. However, if you walk along the coastal paths there are loads of tiny coves and swimming areas...all with steps leading down to them - and even steps into the sea which is pretty helpful!
3. The coastal paths. These are lovely, and also shaded, well-kept and easy to walk...great if you don't like to be lazy all day but don't consider yourself an intrepid explorer.
4. The port is really pretty, and you can watch the big cruise ships come in and out at all hours.
5. The spread of people is pretty large actually - English tourists are in the minority I would say...you have French, American, German tourists on the whole. That is not to say that there aren't English people, just that we are less than normal!
6. Everyone speaks English, and well. It is embarrassing really.
7. The apartment where we are has amazing views (see yesterday), but that comes at a price...many many flights of steps to get up there. A hellish ten minutes in the heat. Apparently over 350 steps to get up or down (not that I've counted them yet!)
8. Restaurants are all much of a muchness...if you like meat, pizza or fish then you are sorted - not really for those who get fussy over uber-fine dining. However, the dishes are cooked really well and are well seasoned so I can't complain at all!
9. The area is very very clean, and also family orientated - there are loads of children's playgrounds dotted around the place.
10. There is a lovely friendly atmosphere, and almost non-existent levels of crimes adds to that. It just generally feels really safe.

Well, I think that is about it for one night! I would definitely recommend it as an alternative to staying right in the heart of Dubrovnik!
