The Cucumber That Bobbled
It is, of course, a karavella or bitter gourd if you'd prefer.
We went to an ace Indian vegetarian restaurant last night called Saravanabhavan. The location isn't the most salubrious - it's in the area around the main station in Frankfurt and is called in German das Rotlichtviertel.
I'll break that down for you "rot" = red, "licht" = light and "viertel" = quarter.
Not really my scene.
But the restaurant was really good. It's not impressive to look at, or beautifully decorated, or indeed, staffed with waiters who know what they're doing. But. The kitchen certainly does.
Yum things like Chilli Paneer, Idlis and awesome crispy dosas. We ate lots and lots. And chatted. It was lovely to catch up with K & V & B.
After the meal we went to an Indian supermarket where we bought a few bits and pieces, including this gourd.
I'm sure some of the other shops around could sell you something similar looking but they would probably require batteries.
