Shelter from the Storm
It seems like an eternity since we've seen civilization. Seconds turn into minutes , and minutes turn into, well, more minutes. Damn this wretched storm. Mr. Expert TV Weatherguy said this system could last all afternoon and dump up to an inch of rain. Unbelievable...an inch!!! Oh, what have we done to deserve this unholy wrath, this inconvenience of apocalyptic proportions. On all sides of me I now see things getting wet...soaking wet. Will we ever feel the healing power of the sun again. Will we ever be completely dry off or will be forced to spend the remainder of our days wandering the earth with soaked socks, damp pants and frizzy hair. Oh, the humanity. What have we done to bring this plague upon our faire community. Did we fail to see the signs and heed their warning? This morning's drizzle was a clear foreshadow of the devastation to follow. Oh ,why were we oblivious to the obvious and so self absorbed that we could not see what was written in the skies above our very heads.
Oh, wait...I think the rain is stopping. It's beginning to clear. I think I see a sign, yes, it's definitely a sign. An omen if you will, of good things to come. A sort of rainbow with green lettering. I can barely read it out the rain-blurred window of our urban assault vehicle. I think it says...yes, I'm sure now...it says something like "Kelly's Korner Tavern".
Ahh, at last, shelter from the storm.
