Indonesian kitchen

They look simple but the food that comes out of Indonesian kitchens is varied, tasty, spicy and relatively healthy (compared to the cuisine of the Philippines where I've just been, which makes a block of lard look like a nutritious alternative).

I enjoy digging my hands into a banana leaf filled with rice, chicken, salad, spicy sambal and crispy tempe. Washed down with a helping of sweet iced tea.

I didn't linger for long in this kitchen as there was a very large sounding rat moving around near my feet. It would take a very large number of rats to put me off Indonesian food.
