Fortunately in our age of total transparency the world is still full of secrets. That is not due to the failure or limits of knowledge, journalism, information gathering, the google worldview, social media or even spying. I´m not talking about some romantic “Secret Garden”-stories or the kind of private affairs disclosed in TV-gossip. And of course what is meant here by “secret” has nothing to do with the undercover activities of any Secret Service on this globe.
What do I mean then by saying that the world is full of secrets? Wouldn’t it be more teasing to say that the world itself remains a secret, as is the case with life in the universe? In spite of all our so called scientific knowledge we have acquired of it. By the way, who is that “we”? The undisputed expert, who can understand his own logic of discovery? And maybe who can explain his findings to a larger public of laymen? Here I do not want to explore the immanent limiting conditions for any process of acquiring knowledge. Because what I am saying is not about complexity and empirical truth. It is a matter of principle and concerns a fundamental Truth which goes beyond any explanation of the concrete world.
Is then my opening statement a naive attempt to flee from the naked uglyness, cruelty and destructiveness, the almost apocalyptic agonies of everyday worlds? A kind of impossible worldflight, escaping into my dream world, childish hiding place - far from the madding crowd - as you might see today’s photo as representation of that idle inner desire to find or create your Green Hiding Place - your personal paradise of sheer Beauty. Maybe your comment would not be entirely without reason. But again, here I must ask why and where we want to go with Reason as such. Couldn’t it be a liberating alternative to make that tiny step aside or backwards out of that all embracing context of Reason and Knowledge, and just say with a big smile from the depth of your heart and soul: You see, the universe is one great unfathomable secret!
