Sighting #6: On the Other Side

People who believe in ghosts often talk about "the other side" - some sort of spirit world, separated from our own.

You can think of a mirror the same way; it separates the world we live in from a strange, reflected place that we can see, but not enter. That gave me the idea of this shot for my series of fake ghost photos: the photographer gets his selfie photobombed by some entities that only exist "on the other side of the mirror".

My original idea of this had much more of the foreground ("this side of the mirror") included, with extra figures in the mirror that were normal except for the fact that, in the real world, they were clearly absent from where they should be.

As I started playing around with it, though, I found myself leaning towards something a bit more unnatural-looking, cropped in close enough to show details. I ended up with these two "beings". I thought at first of making them golden and glowing, but they toned in too well with the background colours. So now they're bluish, and that, together with the effects I've applied, makes them look to me like beings of crackling energy, peering out at the real world as they press up against the glass.
