Marjorie's ramblings

By walkingMarj

"Not bad for an old man!"

That is what this fisherman said as he slowly plodded home from fishing in the estuary. He had caught one fish so had his breakfast.

Only one of our group decided to go home today rather than walk in the rain and wind of Hurricaine Bertha. Helen has a shortened route for us, which involved some time by the shore, but most of the time in the woods near Arnside. It did drizzle and even rained during the morning, but the heavy rain and high winds never came near. We had a lovely walk.

I left my camera behind in view of the forecast, so this is an iphone image. The skies certainly lacked any features, but I like this man's face and the way you can see some of our group walking away in the distance.

Thank you to everyone who has attempted to answer yesterday's question. What an erudite lot you are - and very thoughtful. I even had 2 answers by email from people who watch my blips but who are not members. One promises a discussion while we walk on Wednesday!!

My own initial reaction was to say that "a good life" is the sort of assessment we hear in obituaries and carries with it a value judgement about someone's life. It often implies altruism and service. "The good life" sounds more like fulfilling individual desires or is it living simply and ethically?
