Harry of the hills
Today Harry and Marj took Arth and Aggie for a walk. Theoretically, it was an easy walk from Bewcastle to Birdoswald. It will be in the October walking festival as a Special Interest walk with the author, Max Adams. Part of the route is over private land and Harry had talked to the farmer so that we have permission to walk there.
All well and good. BUT, I was in a hungover state - despite no alcohol for weeks - after the weekend of music. I could not get my head clear this morning. The route is over pretty rough moorland. There were intermittent heavy showers, between which we were much too hot in waterproofs.
THEN we came to the section north of Slack House Farm where the forestry has been felled and the heavy vehicles have left an unpassable quagmire. It's always been boggy there, but nothing like this. We tried and we failed to get through. We cannot take walkers there in the festival.
By now, time was ticking by. Harry had to be back home in the west ready for an evening wedding do in Cockermouth. I had to be at Slimming World to take photos for Woman of the Year. We retreated and found another way.
Here is Harry with the magnificent buildings of Spadeadam Farm in the background. The silage is cut but not gathered in.
Arth and Aggie had a severe testing today and seem OK tonight.
Harry occasionally appears in my Blip comments as Harry of the Hills, so I am in fear and trepidation about what he will say today.......!
I made it to Slimming World where I had apparently lost 4lb this week and lost 10% of my body weight (another certificate) but I suspect I was dehydrated!!
Early night and I do the new route tomorrow. When will the madness end?
