ANOTHER NEW INSECT

I’ve never seen this particular insect before – a head like a hoverfly and a long, thin, black body like a wasp. The closest I could find was ‘Elongate Flower Fly’ - it had the red round head & wasp-like body. (I checked ‘hoverflies’ online, but all those pictured had the telltale yellow & black patterned body and didn’t look like this.) If you can identify it, please let me know.

While watering my plants today, Miss Katydid got an unwelcome splash. I didn’t see her until she hopped out from under the leaves. She’s on Flickr trying to clean the water off her front feet.
