West Quoddy Head, South Lubec, Maine
We got up and had a relaxed morning , beautiful weather and set off before noon for Lubec. We took in some local sights , poked around an antique shop and had a shrimp and clam lunch at Frank's Restaurant on Water Street. After lunch we headed down the South Lubec Road, my grandmother Nora's place of birth and headed to West Quoddy Head Lighthouse . My great great great grandfather, Ebenezer Wormell was a keeper in the late 1850s before the red and white striped tower and station were erected. My great grandfather, Loring Leavitt was an Assistant Keeper at the present light station. He and his wife Weathy Ellen Wormell Leavitt. brought up my grandmother and her brother Paul when their mother died after Paul was born. When Nora's father remarried they went back to live with him.
We walked on a new trail down to stairs to a great observation platform and then around the cliffs at the edge of the sea, back to the lighthouse . The trail and views were great. We then took another set of stairs down to the beach and watched the tide coming in and the slice of Grand Manan Island NB, what they call the Blue Biscuit across the dangerous channel between the two countries. Then a short hike to the Arctic Bog to see the pitcher plants.
It was a really fun day and we made it home in a quick rain shower, had dinner and have faded quickly!
For the Record,
This day came in warm and sunny, a perfect day.
All hands healthy
