Storm on the way
We woke up to drizzly skies and decided to drive south to a little town called Cherryfield. My sister in law raved about a couple of new shops and it seemed a perfect day to check them out.
The blueberry harvest is just about ready to get into full swing and we saw the berry crates stacked up in Machias at the wild blueberry processing plant and picking beginning along Rt 1 These are low bush blueberries and they are so blue against the green of the barrens that you can see the blue orbs from the car windows.
The shops were wonderful, delightful old buildings , a bubbling river and an old Maine town feel. . A big rainstorm followed us home, we had to pull off the road and wait a bit. We arrived in Machiasport just in time to close the upstairs windows and batten down for a cool rainy night. I streaked out to the cemetery and grabbed the shot of the angry clouds over the Bay, then the heavens opened and I had to race to the house.
Yesterday we had a glorious day in the sun taking a ferry from Eastport, after llunch , to Deer Island, New Brunswick, Canada on a tiny car ferry. We did a bit of exploring and then took another car ferry to Campobello for dinner. We ate in a completely refurbrished lodge , now part of the Roosevelt Provincial Park, just down the road from FDR's lovely summer cottage. What a view. This weekend will be the 50th Anniversary of the Park's opening, I was there then in 1964 (and shook President Johnson's hand), and we will be there on Saturday for the ceremonies. Campobello Island is connected to Lubec, USA via an international bridge.
Last evening
For the Record,
This day came in with sprinkles and then a torrential rainstorm.
All hands healthy
