168 km in this...

...I'm really not much of a fan of cycle racing, but today I witnessed something pretty special.

The Glasgow 2014 Men's Road Race took place under an unrelenting downpour. There were 140 starters and only 20-odd finishers!

A couple of hundred metres from the start the chain on Geraint Thomas's bike got all tangled up & he had to change his back wheel. Had to work his way up through the whole field.

At the time I caught this with 79.6 km (about 2 hours to go) he's about halfway back in that soggy group.

At the beginning of the last lap he was one of the three leaders when he made his dash for gold - the with just 4.5 km to go he got a puncture & had to change his front wheel...

Well done him - he made gold with time to spare!!
