the party beneath
This is where the parade passed beneath. The lights with the symbols of Christianity and Islam. Past the church with Jesus giving it big arms, and St Andrew (patron saint of the town) humphing his X-shaped cross just below.
It was the Moros parade. Townspeople dressed in 'Arabian Night' type costumes, some riding white stallions others riding palm tree decorated floats. Scimitars, crescent-moon blades and rifles, staffs peacock-feathered headgear. All good. But there were a few strange get-ups. Amazonian dancers and 'deepest darkest Africa" spear wavers which were a little unseemly and surely nothing to do with the Moorish civilisation being celebrated. Maybe I'm just overthinking it.
Anyway. More tonight. Los Cristianos .
