they were everywhere

american northern flickers - that is - i think they're a type of woodpecker - but i notice that - these kind - tend to spend time on - the ground - searching for food - today there were a lot of them - in the local park - i happened to be visiting - usually i might spot - 1 or 2 of them - hanging about - today i spied about 15 - both on the ground - as well as in trees - to be able to capture them together - like this - totally unbelievable! typically, they see me coming - fly away in a heartbeat - for some reason - they decided to be tolerant - of me - i wasn't about to argue - i snapped off several shots - trying not to be greedy - then hightailed it out of there - being grateful - calling out a "thank you" to them - even though i know they may not - understand what i'm saying - yet somehow - i tend to believe they do - and because of it - it all combines to make for...
