Villa Borghese
With the Torbay Civic Society, who organise a mix of local history and social events, and blue plaques. Yesterday we were unveiling a plaque to Prince Oldenburg of Russia, at Villa Borghese in Torquay. The Villa Borghese was the first Italianate house to be built in the 1830s, built by the Capel-Cure family to house their art treasures collected from a grand tour of Italy, while their home in Shropshire, Badger Hall, was being built.The Prince visited in 1850. It's never too late for a blue plaque...
