A week ago, all the burns we passed in our usual places were quiet and thin after a dry week, but today in Glen Massan the noise through the trees in the gorge told us that normal conditions had been resumed. It's not easy to see the burn from the road in the summer, but a little path through the trees brings you to this wonderful jumble of rocks through which the River Massan thunders in spectacular fashion.
Part of me was tempted to scramble further into the very middle of the burn, but the rocks were wet with huge pools caught in their whorls, and discretion and a mindfulness of the passing years held me back. A pity ...
