Walking home from work - Rwandan adventure

We came across this lady presumably walking home from tending her crops. We drove to Lake Begezi (not sure if I got the name righ?) We hired two canoes and went out onto the lake. Which is in the middle of nowhere. Evidently a party of schoolchildren had gone out the week before and had got frightened in the middle of the lake and stood up and capsized the boat and sadly two drowned. So the local government said all on boardxnow had to wear lifejackets. Unfortunately we arrived before them so the boat guys didn't want to let us go out but as Heather speaks good kinarawandan she persuaded them as it looked like we might have a long wait. However after a few minutes a motorino arrived packed with brand new lifejackets from Kigali. Although my daughter wasn't impressed with them as they weren't up to international standards (she is merchant navy!) Nevertheless we had a wonderful time on the lake watching the birds and had a picnic lunch on board. When we got back we were shown a little hut which has been built to house a very tiny library forthe local kids and has been sponsored by US Aid charity. It had onky opened in the last couple of months but already looking at the book log it had been well used.

after this we visited a tea factory high in the hills. It is easy to see why Rwanda is called the land of a thousand hills.
