The Railway Folk

For many years the Steam Railway hosted a weekend with Thomas the Tank Engine but because it was becoming economically unviable to bring Thomas and friends over to the Island it was decided to replace the event with a purely local show.

Together with local storytellers and cartoonist a series of comic characters were invented known as The Railway Folk impersonated by Steam Railway staff and professional performers who proceeded to create havoc over a well attended weekend to the great enjoyment of a large crowd of visitors especially the children.

The families were encouraged to take part in all sorts of of games and competitions in various marquees and on the show ground and in glorious weather much fun was had by one and all.

The popularity of the event is down to all the hard work by the pro and amateur performers and is sure to become an annual event for the railway.
