Sea otters

Here we are in Winter Harbour on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Years ago the otters were hunted close to extinction in the area and were reintroduced in the late 90's. Now they have a healthy population and I fell in love with them! This was a particularly large and somewhat ugly one but he entertained us for hours diving under the dock and coming up with sea urchins, their favourite food. They have huge teeth, lie on their backs while crunching up lunch, constantly rolling in the water.
