Kildrummy Castle Gardens
Although I have been to Kildrummy Castle a couple of times in the past, I have never been to the gardens.
The Castle is one of Historic Scotland's many ruins. As one of their custodians once commented to me, not many of their properties have roofs. The gardens are not part of the Castle proper and so require a separate entrance fee, but worth a visit.
We stayed at the gardens an hour or so, and as far as we could tell we were the only people to visit in this time. Perhaps the gardens are an undiscovered gem. The garden is partially landscaped into what must have been a quarry at some time. This part of the garden is very manicured, other parts have a rather more "wild" look to them.
For me one of the highlights of the Garden is this bridge over the garden carrying the driveway to the nearby Kildrummy Castle Hotel.
In the evening we were planning to walk over to the new Indian Restaurant in Westhill. We abandoned the notion when there was a very heavy downpour just as we were about to head over. I had had the feeling in the afternoon there could be rain on the way as the sky had turned rather white and leaden looking, even though the temperature had remained quite high. It subsequently rained most of the night.
