By the backdoor...

Dear Diary,

Every morning when I try to go out the backdoor, there is a little grasshopper waiting there. I can't tell if it is the same grasshopper each day but there he is. Yesterday I said it was wonderful how the camera can preserve and protect our memories, recording not just the grand events in our lives but the simple moments as well. It made me think of the famous Dorothea Lange quote,

"Photography takes an instant out of time, altering life by holding it still."
- Dorothea Lange

But the camera can also enhance our seeing in subtle and amazing ways.

When I brought the photograph of this little fellow into Photoshop and was able to enlarge it and enhance the contrast, I saw the wonderful detail and especially the light on his hind leg which was glowing a soft pink, something I didn't see at first. It reminded me of another Dorothea Lange quote...

"The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera.”
