Grain Filling

The surface of the table top has been sealed and the next stage of the restoration is grain filling. This is achieved by rubbing in (across the grain) plaster of palace with a damp cloth, wiping off the surplice dried plaster, rubbing over with linseed oil and finally removing the surplus oil. In the blip the top half of the table top has the plaster of polish applied and the bottom half has the surplus removed. The purpose of grain filling is to help give a smooth, reflective finish when we complete the polishing stage.
