Wally Close
At two external meetings today, the first of which was at Edinburgh Napier's Craighouse campus where I took this shot of a wally close. A wally close is a Scot's term - am I right in thinking it's more commonly used in Glasgow? - for a stairwell lined with with ceramic tiles. Wally is also a derisory expression used when a person's integrity is being called into question, as in 'What a wally'. Furthermore, it's a shortened version of the name Walter and, it just so happens, that I have an Uncle Walter and I'm going to visit him and my aunt tomorrow. How's that for blip continuity!
