What a Day!
What a day indeed!
We started the day with a delicious breakfast and a great conversation with our B&B host, Tricia. We were chatting along merrily and the referendum came up and Tricia seemed surprised that we were Yes voters. We had an even better conversation about the possibilities - very amicable. I recommended she watch a few of the Aye Talks, especially Dr Philippa Whitford and my favourite, Kieran Hurley. I got a message from Tricia later saying that she had started to watch - hurrah!
The road up to Scrabster had an unexpected twisty, slightly fairground-ride-scary bit that certainly kept me awake - like a touch of the Bealach na Bà to Applecross - accompanied by sudden mist. That was fun!
We had a bit of time at the ferry terminal and turned on that other place to find that Dr T's contribution to the National Collective had been uploaded and was being shared by friends and colleagues. The colleague who posted it then told Dr T that the Yestival was going to be in Kirkwall tonight. As we started to explore the town, we found the venue for the evening event and popped in for an afternoon drink. Dr T got talking to the organisers, they recognised him from the aforementioned National Collective website and invited him to do a spot at the event!
The event was fabulous! It was packed to the rafters and the performers (especially Dr T) were fantastic - there is such great young talent in this country. What a wonderful gathering of people who are sure of their vote and others swithering to get together and chat - no animosity and good humour in plentiful supply. I've been going to demonstrations about some injustice or another for over 30 years and tonight was such a breath of fresh air and so wonderfully positive!
When we got back to our very lovely accommodation, we couldn't quite believe the delights the day brought. Three cheers to Dr T!
Here's the song that closed the night, sung by the lovely Jamie Marshall.
PS I think the link from yesterday's blip didn't work so here's Stewart Bremner's online print shop - well worth a visit!
