Rescue Me

Today with the forecast for a scorcher, the wheat fields shimmering in the heat and the Tarmac turning to something resembling chewing gum, LooseCanon and I decided it would be a perfect opportunity for a nice long hot hilly bike ride.

We were aiming for the Lenches which are lovely little Worcestershire villages. This impossibly pretty chocolate box thatched house is in Salford Priors.

It was all going surprisingly well, me puffing along grumbling and L/C waiting for me at the top of every hill, then he had a puncture at Church Lench, about the furthest point from home. No problem usually, whip the wheel off, whip a new tube in, and on our way. Unfortunately neither of us had spares or repair kit or tyre levers or anything remotely useful like that.

To cut a long story short, after I'd set off for home to get the car, a total stranger, fellow cyclist stopped and helped L/C and gave him a spare inner tube. Didn't want paying or anything. The kindness of a complete stranger.
