Almost Finished
The planting project doubled in size this morning when we decided to pull out a solid block of blue fescue which was no longer blue because it was rotted underneath. I struggled with shovel and trowel to dig up one (out of twenty five) and was wrestling with the second one when Dana came over with a digging iron (a four foot long heavy bar with a point on one end and a flat bit on the other) thrust it twice under the plant, and levered it out. The following conversation ensued:
Me: "I can do that…maybe" Laughing helplessly as I can barely lift it, much less trust it under the plant with one or two deft strokes.
Dana: "Watch out for the irrigation hose".
Me: Ooops!
OilMan: "Oh s**. Those joints are impossible to remove and repair"
Dana: Lifting digging iron again, shattering the joint. "Now just peel it off.
Crisis averted….what a team!
My neighbor, Ann, texted from the back gate to see if she could shortcut her walk home.
I was making sandwiches, so I made one for her.
Tim arrived with Olive, their dog, after dropping Joni and the kids off at the airport. They are going to her parents' in North Dakota, Tim is going to work, and Olive is going to stay with us.
Will showed up with his friend Grant and left again to pick up Peter and Rudy. The dogs are all circling and sniffing and establishing territory.
We've called it a day now. At least OilMan and I have. Not so sure about Dana. Jim will be here when he gets off work.
Looks like I should go and see about feeding everybody….
