A bird in the hand.

Friday morning and we decide to walk a course along the River Wye just to the south of Goodrich.

Because we have booked a table at a pub just south of here we decide not to start the planned walk where the guide says but on a point about half way round and the other side of the river, a mistake.

We parked the car in a gross amusement arcade at Symonds Yat West and walked south to join the planned walk. Arriving at the Cable Ferry I enquired about its use and was told that it would run in about 30 minutes, as this happened to be a pub a drink was called for so we sat outside with two lemonades and watched the water go by.

CoffeePotter suddenly drew my attention to this bird under the trestle table next to us, I could see it was either a swallow or swift (perhaps someone can enlighten me) and that it probably couldn't take off from the floor and was in danger of being eaten one of the two Bedlington terriers that accompanied us.

What else can a knight-errant do but to sweep the maiden up in his hand and carry her away, sounds good doesn't it and no sooner had he done this and released his hold that she flew away.

Anyway the ferry trip hadn't transpired so I got our prepaid fare back and we cleared off.

The moral to this story is to start in East Symonds Yat and use the suspension footbridge.
